## Snapshot

A man who remembers Kramer as a boy and now lies watching him with faded, unblinking eyes, weighing old acquaintance against whatever the Security commander wants.

## Who they are

Kramer knew Professor Thomas when he was young, and the old man's first words to him are about weight gained and a marriage that didn't work out — a personal reckoning delivered before business. He waves off Commander Gross with an impatient hand, insisting on the right to talk to Kramer alone, which tells you he understands exactly how much leverage his condition gives him. His watchfulness from the bed, fixed and unwinking, makes him the still center of a room full of men who want something from him.
