First appearance: the variable man
As a supporting figure in Short Fiction, Doctor Henry Harris is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
The protagonist investigating the Piper phenomenon; interviews patients, travels to Y-3, and ventures into the woods.
Harris works from a desk stacked with Base Commander Cox's scrawled notes, treating a handsome young Patrolman's delusion as a problem to be understood rather than dismissed. He offers cigarettes, polishes his glasses, and probes the logic of Westerburg's claim with the calm of a man who has heard strange things before. His curiosity about how a healthy lad became a plant pulls him toward an answer he may not want.
