## Who they are

Sally Preston is sent to Millbourne to forget the heady joys of the cinema, but the sleepy Hampshire village has never met anyone like her. She immediately disrupts the calm by flinging clods at Thomas Kitchener, the grave young second gardener, and declaring the place the beastliest hole in existence.
