Rollo Finch is universally liked, partly for his sunny disposition and partly because he will be a millionaire on the death of his Uncle Andrew, the Braces King. Between Rollo and his inheritance stands only the possibility that his uncle might marry and produce little Galloways, a threat that grows more real as the Pittsburgh magnate enjoys his Indian summer. Rollo's romantic ambitions and his valet Wilson's village wisdom drive the story's comic complications.
