## Snapshot

A New York host staking everything on one perfect dinner, Paul Boielle watches his careful evening unravel when a stranger's memory turns the table tense.

## Who they are

Paul Boielle has poured his hopes into a single dinner party, an occasion he needs to succeed because there is so little else ahead of him to look back on with pleasure. His careful hospitality collides with a guest's relentless curiosity about a fellow diner's past, and the champagne he chose as a social lubricant must now do the work of a relieving army. His anxious, generous efforts to keep the evening afloat make him the story's emotional barometer, measuring how quickly a well-planned evening can slide toward disaster.
