> Mr. Vince in Short Fiction by P. G. Wodehouse.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Vince

**First appearance:** 0000-when-papa-swore-in-hindustani

## Snapshot

An artist who secretly draws the popular Doughnut family cartoons and dreads telling his poetess fiancée the vulgar truth.

## Who they are

Mr. Vince is a painter who returned from Paris to find that only comic work would keep him fed, so he became the anonymous creator of Funny Slices' Doughnut family. He confesses this to Reggie with nervous shame, convinced that Eunice Nugent — an intense, spiritual poetess — would be horrified to learn her suitor draws slapstick gargoyles for a living. His dilemma over whether to tell her drives the story's central romantic anxiety and sets up the lunch at the Piccadilly.
