**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Elsa

**First appearance:** 0000-when-papa-swore-in-hindustani

## Snapshot

A high-spirited young lady fond of Tennyson and poetry, she is the object of Martin's suit and the subject of a servants' hall matrimonial sweepstake.

## Who they are

Miss Elsa is the young lady of the house, romantic and headstrong, given to sitting in the hall while Mr. Barstowe reads 'The Princess' aloud to her. Martin, who is trying to win her, makes the mistake of hovering and interrupting, which only drives her further into the poetry. Keggs the butler, drawing on his experience with Lady Angelica Fendall, advises Martin to leave the pair alone and let Elsa have all the poetry she wants, since opposition only strengthens a romantic young lady's resolve.
