## Snapshot

A tall, black-eyed woman with a voice that booms and eyes that drill spines, she runs the Craye family like a field marshal and summons Reggie to account for her brother's engagement.

## Who they are

Florence is the unmarried sister who, after her father fled to Europe and her aunts were routed one by one, took command of the Craye household near Philadelphia. Her brothers live in terror of her, and even Reggie, who has been oppressed by her since childhood, turns to jelly in her presence. When she discovers that her brother Douglas is engaged to a palmist named Mrs. Darrell, she summons Reggie to Madison Avenue for an interrogation, and her displeasure is a force of nature.
