Taras Bulba's younger son, all ardor and appetite, who throws himself into the Setch's wild freedom and then into something far more dangerous.

## Who they are

Andrii arrives at Zaporozhe fresh from the seminary, and the Setch's chaotic morals and terrible punishments seize his imagination at once. He is the more impressionable brother, quick to feel, quick to be moved by beauty and by the fear of being buried alive beside a murdered man. His openness makes him beloved among the Cossacks and also makes him the one whose heart can be turned, setting up the choice that will divide the family.
