## Snapshot

A prince's son raised in his father's contempt, whose fierce loyalty to his dying mother hardens into a suspicion and defiance that will shape everything he does.

## Who they are

Ludovico of Mondolfo is the elder son of the haughty Prince Fernando, hated from boyhood for daring to defend his mother Isabel against his father's cruelty. Bound by a deathbed vow not to leave his father's protection until twenty, he endures scorn from vassals, servants, and his own brother while nurturing a soldier's ambition and a smoldering rage. His mother's death strips the last softness from him; what remains is a young man of dogged will and dangerous resentment, poised between the Church his father intends for him and the sword he has chosen instead.
