## Snapshot

An arrogant young nobleman who sells his inheritance acre by acre in Paris, then returns to Genoa a beggar in regal disguise to claim his bride.

## Who they are

Affianced to Juliet beside his father's deathbed and entrusted to Torella as a second parent, he goes abroad to see the world and becomes a spoiled favorite of dissolute Paris. Arrogant, self-willed, and hungry for display, he throws off all control and disposes of his estates to fund his splendor, despatching furniture and a jeweled jennet ahead of him. He returns to Genoa armed against censure by bravado, hiding half fear and half penitence, and the gap between his proud step and his beggared heart drives the political and romantic drama that follows.
