## Who they are

He ascends the mountain villa in all the joy of youth and hope, exchanges a tender farewell, and rides down toward Naples as the sun sinks behind Istria. His brief leave, his promised bride, and the coming campaign set in motion the strange Neapolitan tale that follows.
