# Lord Geoffrey — Short Fiction character guide

> Lord Geoffrey in Short Fiction by Algis Budrys.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** Geoffrey

**First appearance:** 0000-riya-s-foundling

## Snapshot

A young Leaguesman cannoneer pulled from a wrecked tankette, indebted to the Barbarian who spares him and hungry to call Dugald out.

## Who they are

Geoffrey of Geoffrion wakes with broken ribs after his own comrade Dugald's treachery, saved by the enemy raider Hodd Savage, who recognizes his gunnery and lets him live. Proud and quick to vow trial by combat, he is landless now that the princelings divide the fiefs of the dead, and the Barbarian gently shows him how little his League's victory bought. His wound and his grievance set him on the road the story follows.
