First appearance: the secret of kralitz
As a supporting figure in Short Fiction, The Swamja is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
The fish-headed alien race that rules the hidden valley, enslaving victims drawn by the artificial North-Fever.
The Swamja are not villains who chase anyone; they are a centuries-old civilization that has made a science of harvesting slaves, seeding the fever into the winds and shaping the mountains into a trap. Lysla's account of them turns Vanning's sickness into something far worse than illness, and their thousand-strong city becomes the destination the entire early arc is quietly steering toward. Their collective, patient cruelty is the story's real gravity.
