# Kuranes — Short Fiction character guide

> Kuranes in Short Fiction by H. P. Lovecraft.

**Role:** major

**First appearance:** 0012-celepha-s

## Snapshot

A dreamer who conjured a city in his sleep and is now summoned by its knights to reign there as its chief god forevermore.

## Who they are

Kuranes is a man whose inner life has outgrown the waking world: he created Ooth-Nargai in dreams, and Celephaïs answers him with roan horses and cloth-of-gold banners. The cavalcade that comes for him rides back through Time itself, past the villages of his ancestors, blurring the line between memory and vision. His story turns on the pull between the grey ordinary life he was born to and the luminous realm that only he could imagine into being.
