## Snapshot

A stranded British wastrel whose feverish dreams of a murdered Chinaman and buried gold drive him and his companion deeper into the jungle.

## Who they are

Hinchcliff shares a canoe and a desperate thirst with Evans, listening to the other man's dream of Chang-hi's pigtail and a hoard of gold. He is the steadier of the two, marking landmarks and measuring the stream while Evans gnaws his hand and stares at the gleam of silver among the rocks. His careful navigation and Evans's haunted greed pull them toward the place where the dream and the treasure may or may not meet.
