**First appearance:** 0027-omnilingual

## Snapshot

Tony Lattimer is the expedition's impatient archaeologist, more interested in breaking ground than in reading what he uncovers.

## Who they are

Lattimer runs a solenoid jackhammer against Martian ruins while Martha Dane picks at a single crushed page, and the contrast is the whole quarrel of the dig. He wants buildings opened, results logged, the site cleared by machinery rather than by hand. His haste is a standing threat to the fragile written record that might be the only key to the planet's lost language.
