# Mouche — Short Fiction character guide

> Mouche in Short Fiction by Guy de Maupassant.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Man, Mouche A Boating Man, little Mouche

**First appearance:** 0377-mouche

## Snapshot

A young woman living aboard a boat with three men, keeping a secret that quietly reshapes the loyalties and tensions among them.

## Who they are

Mouche shares a cramped, waterborne life with three men, a household whose intimacy breeds both dependence and unspoken rivalry. Her secret gives her a private gravity that the men around her can sense but not name, and it colors every ordinary exchange on deck. She matters because the story's early tension grows from what she withholds, turning a boating idyll into a study of trust, desire, and what people choose not to see.
