**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** the handsome Lormerin

**First appearance:** 0003-short-fiction

## Snapshot

A still-handsome Parisian bachelor who returns to a long-ago love expecting to dazzle her, and finds twenty-five years have been kinder to his mirror than to his memory.

## Who they are

Lormerin has spent decades as a self-satisfied man about town, keeping a small altar in his heart for Lise de Vance, the one woman he believes he truly loved. When an invitation arrives, he dresses with a woman's care and arrives eager to be admired, only to meet a white-haired old lady who smiles through tears. His vanity, tenderness, and quiet shock make the story a rueful meditation on time and self-deception.
