## Snapshot

A self-satisfied man of opinions and appetites whose confidence cracks whenever the world refuses to arrange itself around his expectations.

## Who they are

Andrew Pavlovitch Kragaef moves through drawing rooms and offices with the assurance of a man who believes he has earned his place. His vanity and his hunger for admiration make him easy to wound, and Sologub shows us the petty retaliations that follow. He matters because his ordinary egotism becomes a lens for the stories' recurring question: what happens when a man's inner life fails to match his outward pose.
