# Mr. Andrias — Short Fiction character guide

> Mr. Andrias in Short Fiction by Frederik Pohl.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Andrias, Governor Andrias, Governor

**First appearance:** 0000-asteroid-of-the-damned

## Snapshot

Governor Andrias is the second governor of Callisto, whose corruption turned a reform project into a planet-wide plague of treachery.

## Who they are

Andrias inherited a Callisto where the first honest governor had begun stamping out vice and building representative government, and he squandered it into bribery, smuggled rifles, and rule by fear. Duane finds him bound in his own chair with his own Venus-wool scarf, a fitting image of a man whose authority has become a costume. He matters because his rot is the reason the League's Callisto experiment failed, and the reason Duane's mission cannot afford to fail.
