# Hubert Blair — Short Fiction character guide

> Hubert Blair in Short Fiction by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Robert, Hubert, Lambert

**First appearance:** 0206-i

## Snapshot

A jaunty, popular boy whose whistled Grizzly Bear down a moonlit alley walks him straight into the Scandal Detectives' ambush.

## Who they are

Hubert Blair is the kind of son who kisses his mother, sets his cap at an angle, and takes the alley shortcut without a second thought. When anonymous notes signed S. D. begin arriving, his father asks careful questions and Hubert answers with the cheerful vagueness of a boy who has never had an enemy worth naming. The decoy telephone call and the masked figures waiting in the alley make him the unwitting center of a boys' conspiracy that is part game and part genuine menace.
