Farraj belongs to the small, ragged band of Arab irregulars who ride with Lawrence on raids, where he and his companion Daud are the ringleaders of every mischief. To Lawrence he is one of the sunlit beings on whom the world's shadow has not yet fallen, and his fate shadows the campaign's cost.
