## Snapshot

A peasant's son who sat still for thirty years, then rose with mighty strength to ride from Múrom to Kíev, defending the faithful against robbers and foreign hosts.

## Who they are

Ilyá Múromets leaves his parents with their blessing and a stern oath: do no one harm and spill no Christian blood in vain. On the road he scatters a robber band with a single dart, rescues Sébezh from three Tsarévichi, and finds Chernígov besieged by a Saracen host. His early arc is defined by the tension between restrained mercy and overwhelming force, as he tests whether a stay-at-home peasant can become the defender of Kíev.
