President of the Humanity League who arrives at Rossum's to stir a revolt, then stays to marry its manager and carry a private guilt about the Robots' souls.

## Who they are

Helena comes to the factory as an outsider with a cause, warning Domin that she intends to rouse the Robots, and ends up his wife ten years later in the same room. Haunted by the 'cruel strangeness' between humans and Robots, she asked Dr. Gall to give them a physiological correlate of soul, hoping they could not hate what resembled them. Her tenderness is both the play's conscience and its quietest incitement, and she is the one who finally names Gall's secret aloud.
