## Who they are

Hallemeier oversees the training of Robots, yet in the crisis he is the one stacking barricades and admitting, with a soldier's bluntness, that there's a feeling of death about it all. He is practical, a little sentimental, and openly moved by Helena's piano drifting through the shuttered house. His tenderness toward music and his grim readiness to fight sit side by side, showing how the men who built this world still cling to its graces.
