## Key lines

> Great silent heart! These barren drops of grief Are not for you, attained unto your rest;

Your heart is now at peace, so my tears of sorrow are meaningless to you.

_The speaker acknowledges that the deceased has found rest, making mourning futile for him._

> Your soul has melted—painless, silent, free; Mine the wrung heart, mine the clasped, useless hands.

Your spirit has dissolved into a painless, silent freedom, while I am left with a tormented heart and helpless hands.

_Contrasts the peace of the deceased with the ongoing suffering of the living._

> Your heart, within the pulsing Race-heart drowned, Beats in the immortality of Right.

Your heart, merged with the collective heartbeat of humanity, continues to beat in the eternal cause of justice.

_Suggests that the friend's spirit lives on through the ongoing struggle for righteousness._

> Unto Nirvana—so the deep tones sing— And there—and there—we—shall—be—one—again.

The deep sounds of the sea sing of Nirvana, where we will be reunited as one.

_Ends with a hopeful vision of reunion in a transcendent state beyond death._
