A flushed, resentful office worker on Nyjord who guards filing cabinets while a planet dies, and whose anger marks him as one of the staff Brion cannot trust.

## Who they are

Faussel is part of the compulsory-volunteer staff Brion inherits, a man who flushes with anger when told that saving a planet matters more than paperwork and who carries the resentment of the whole outer office. Through the letter he delivers — the dead supervisor Mervv's farewell to Ihjel — the reader learns that the staff loathe the Disans and that no one has been able to reach the natives at all. Faussel's sullen presence is the first sign that Brion's real obstacle may be his own people, not the enemy.
