First appearance: v fifty experts against a novice
As a supporting figure in Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc, Beaupere is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
A doctor of theology who leads the day's inquest; uses deceptive questions and traps, including a failed attempt to catch Joan on a feast-day attack.
Beaupere sits among the learned men who will judge Joan, and his manner is calm where others are hostile. He probes her voices and her faith with the patience of a man who trusts procedure more than revelation. His presence signals the shift from battlefield to courtroom, where the same steadfastness that won Orleans will be turned against her.
