Chapter 1
Pelle the Conqueror

Chapter 2
Book I: Boyhood
Pelle and his father Lasse arrive at Stone Farm as new laborers, beginning their life as migrant workers. Chapter 3

A dream of a utopian future where machines have freed workers from toil contrasts with his present reality. He searches for Ellen and his children but finds no trace of them, deepening his sense of homelessness and despair.
Chapter 4
II
Pelle returns home from prison to Ellen and his family, including his son Lasse Frederik and the infant Boy Comfort, who is the child of the deceased Marie. He struggles with the news of Marie's death and reconnects with his son, who is leading a milk-boys' strike. Pelle offers advice on organizing the strike, reflecting on his own past in the labor movement.
Chapter 5
III
Pelle returns to Copenhagen and struggles to find work in a changed economy where machinery has displaced artisans. He reflects on the failures of the labor movement and the loss of worker pride. Meanwhile, Ellen and Lasse Frederik are evicted and helped by a street woman, Queen Theresa. Pelle and Ellen's relationship deepens quietly, but Pelle feels the weight of unfulfilled love and the pressure of providing for his family.
