Chapter 1
Act I

Turnstile, a man of science, is outmaneuvered by the Whig ministers and their allies, losing both the office and his seat to the more politically expedient MacLeech. The scenes depict cabinet discussions, club conversations, and personal betrayals, culminating in Turnstile's disillusionment and decision to abandon politics and return to science.
