# Larry Boyne — Our Baseball Club and How It Won the Championship character guide > Larry Boyne in Our Baseball Club and How It Won the Championship by Noah Brooks. **Role:** major **Also known as:** Lawrence Boyne, Boyne, Mr. Boyne **First appearance:** 0001-our-baseball-club-and-how-it-won-the-championship ## Snapshot The Catalpas' gallant young third baseman and captain, whose charm, discipline, and self-aware ambition make him the club's quiet center of gravity. ## Who they are Larry is the new third baseman of the Catalpa Nine, equally at ease flirting with Judge Howell's daughter on the bridge and trading plain sense with the blacksmith who shoes his nag. He treats baseball as a bridge over a hard place rather than a calling, knowing a player's career dies by thirty, and that sober calculation sets him apart from the boys who live only for the game. His poise under pressure, on the diamond and off, anchors the club's early season and makes his choices matter to everyone watching. ## Relationships ### [Ben Burton](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/ben_burton) _friendship_ Ben and Larry are close teammates and friends, with Ben often supporting Larry's leadership on the baseball team. ### [Al Heaton](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/al_heaton) _friendship_ Al Heaton is a teammate and friend of Larry, sharing a strong bond through their shared baseball experiences. ### [Alice Howell](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/alice_howell) _romantic_ Alice and Larry share a romantic interest, with Larry often seeking her approval and affection throughout the story. ### [Albert Heaton](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/albert_heaton) _friendship_ Albert Heaton is a teammate and close friend of Larry, often collaborating on the field and in team matters. ### [Lew Morris](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/lew_morris) _friendship_ Larry and Lew are teammates and friends, with Lew being a reliable supporter of Larry's leadership. ### [Hiram Porter](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/hiram_porter) _friendship_ Hiram Porter is a teammate and friend of Larry, contributing to the team's camaraderie and success. ### [Judge Howell](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/judge_howell) _social_ Judge Howell is a respected community figure who interacts with Larry as a mentor and authority figure, often with approval. ### [Armstrong](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/armstrong) _rivalry_ Armstrong is a rival player or antagonist who competes against Larry, creating tension on and off the field. ### [Charlie King](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/charlie_king) _friendship_ Charlie King is a teammate and friend of Larry, contributing to the team's unity and success. ### [Bill Van Orman](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/bill_van_orman) _friendship_ Bill Van Orman is a teammate and friend of Larry, often participating in team activities and supporting Larry's leadership. ### [Ellis](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/ellis) _friendship_ Ellis is a teammate and friend of Larry, sharing a positive and supportive relationship on the team. ### [Ben Burton](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/characters/ben_burton) _friendship_ Ben and Larry are close teammates and friends, with Ben often supporting Larry's leadership on the baseball team. ## In the story ### [Our Baseball Club and How It Won the Championship](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/chapters/our-baseball-club-and-how-it-won-the-championship) Central figure in the club's formation and leadership. ### [II: A Scrub Game](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/our_baseball_club_and_how_it_won_the_championshi_se/chapters/ii-a-scrub-game) Champion catcher of the Jonesville Nine;
