## Snapshot

Honest John Brubaker anchors the Catalpa Nine with steady play and plain dealing, the kind of reliable man a championship run quietly depends on.

## Who they are

Brubaker belongs to the core of Catalpa's club, the sort of dependable player whose name comes up whenever the town weighs its chances for the pennant. In a season full of hot-headed kids and scheming rivals, his honesty and steadiness mark him as a counterweight, though the very virtue that makes him trusted may also make him slow to suspect a trick. As the Nine test their new material on the road, his reliability helps hold the team together through early stumbles.
