## Snapshot

Ida Boardman is one of the Catalpa girls who follow the Nine with the same fervor as Alice, part of the social circle that makes the season a town affair.

## Who they are

Ida belongs to the cluster of young women in Catalpa whose enthusiasm for the game matches the players' own, and whose talk and gossip carry the season's stakes through the town. Her friendship with Alice places her at the edge of the romance and rivalry that swirl around Larry Boyne and the club. Even in the background, she represents the wider community whose hopes rise and fall with every match.
