## Snapshot

A brawny, impatient slugger for the Catalpas, Hank Jackson haunts the telegraph office for news and hides his worry behind a heavy hand and rougher tongue.

## Who they are

Hank Jackson is the Catalpas' power at the plate and their most restless presence off it, pacing and demanding word from the seat of war. His bulk and blunt manner intimidate younger hangers-on like Mike, yet his anxious hovering reveals how deeply the championship weighs on him. He matters because his bat and his nerves both shape how the club weathers the season's most pressure-filled stretches.
