## Snapshot

A rival captain whose competitive fire makes every matchup against the Catalpa Nine feel personal, raising the stakes of a season already crowded with formidable opponents.

## Who they are

As captain of an opposing club, Ayres embodies the competitive pressure that shadows the Catalpa Nine's championship ambitions from the earliest scheduling talk. His presence sharpens the team's awareness that talent alone won't carry them through a season packed with worthy rivals. He matters because he turns abstract standings into flesh-and-blood adversaries the young players must outthink and outplay.
