Chapter 1

Chapter 2
Scene I
Roderigo confronts Iago about not being told of Desdemona's elopement with Othello. Iago reveals his hatred for Othello for promoting Cassio over him, and outlines his plan to serve Othello only for his own ends. They rouse Brabantio with crude, racist alarms about his daughter's marriage, and Brabantio, enraged, sets out to find and confront Othello.
Chapter 3
Scene II
Othello encounters Iago, who feigns reluctance to harm Cassio and warns Othello about Brabantio's influence. Othello asserts his noble lineage and love for Desdemona. Cassio arrives with a summons from the duke. Brabantio confronts Othello, accusing him of enchanting Desdemona, but Othello agrees to answer the charge before the duke.
Chapter 4
Scene III
Othello defends his marriage before the Duke and Senate, explaining that Desdemona fell in love with him through his stories of adventure and hardship. Desdemona confirms her love and requests to accompany Othello to Cyprus. Brabantio warns Othello that Desdemona may deceive him. Othello entrusts Desdemona to Iago's care. Iago then manipulates Roderigo, convincing him to put money in his purse and follow them to Cyprus, dismissing Roderigo's despair as foolishness.
