## Snapshot

A young Saracen soldier whose faithfulness to his fallen king leads him into the arms of Angelica.

## Who they are

Medoro is a foot soldier in the Moorish army, notable at first only for refusing to abandon the body of his slain lord Dardinello. Wounded and hunted, he is found and healed by Angelica, and the two fall in love in a pastoral interlude that quietly detonates the poem's central catastrophe. His devotion — to his king, then to Angelica — is simple and absolute, and it is precisely that simplicity that ruins Orlando.
