# Wotherspoon — Nordenholt’s Million character guide

> Wotherspoon in Nordenholt’s Million by J. J. Connington.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Mr. Wotherspoon

**First appearance:** 0005-iv-panic

## Snapshot

A pudgy, self-promoting populariser of other men's science, whose dabbling and need for the public eye make him an unlikely fixture in Nordenholt's orbit.

## Who they are

Wotherspoon lectures and writes about real investigators without ever originating anything himself, yet his name carries weight with a public hungry for scientific authority. Flint recalls him with a mixture of pity and contempt, a man crushed by knowledge he never truly possessed. His presence marks the boundary between genuine expertise and the theatre of it.
