# James Rodman — Mr. Mulliner Stories character guide

> James Rodman in Mr. Mulliner Stories by P. G. Wodehouse.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** Rodman, young Rodman

**First appearance:** 0000-the-truth-about-george

## Snapshot

A young man whose romantic and comedic entanglements keep him perpetually braced for trouble, especially from women who once wielded hairbrushes over him.

## Who they are

James Rodman moves through Wodehouse's world of romantic mix-ups and social embarrassments, forever dodging the long arm of old family authority. His particular dread is the nurse who once disciplined him and still treats him as a schoolboy, a tension that makes every polite invitation feel like a trap. He matters because his flustered negotiations between desire and duty drive the early comic machinery of the Mulliner stories.
