# How does Metropolis develop the theme of Rebellion and Revolution?

> Metropolis by Thea von Harbou

## Answer

Metropolis by Thea von Harbou develops Rebellion and Revolution across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The workers' growing desperation leads to violent uprising, symbolized by the 'madness' that breaks out over Metropolis. The narrative shows how exploitation and broken promises (the missing mediator) drive the masses toward destruction, including flooding and machine sabotage.

The workers are incited to destroy the machines and overthrow the masters, leading to a violent uprising.

The mob's violent condemnation of the machines and their attack on Grot represent a revolutionary uprising against the ruling class.

The chaos and destruction of the city, driven by the machines' revolt, reflect a broader rebellion against oppressive systems.
