He matters because he embodies the road not taken — the artist's path — and because his intellectual seriousness gives Peter a model of independent thinking. ## In the story ### [Memoirs of a Revolutionist](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/memoirs_of_a_revolutionist_se/chapters/memoirs-of-a-revolutionist) Peter's brother, who shared his intellectual pursuits and revolutionary ideals. ### [Part I: Childhood](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/memoirs_of_a_revolutionist_se/chapters/part-i-childhood) Kropotkin's older brother, who shared his intellectual curiosity and early revolutionary sympathies. ### [II](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/memoirs_of_a_revolutionist_se/chapters/ii) Peter's older brother, not yet five, who is with him during their mother's final moments and afterward. ### [III](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/memoirs_of_a_revolutionist_se/chapters/iii) Peter's brother, mentioned as sharing in the childhood experiences and the family's literary leanings. ### [Two Years After Mother's Death: A New Life Begins](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/memoirs_of_a_revolutionist_se/chapters/iv) Peter's brother, who shares in the lessons, punishments, and Sunday games with the servants. ### [V](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/memoirs_of_a_revolutionist_se/chapters/v) Peter's brother, who receives biscuits from the ball and is later forced into a military corps. ### [VII](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/memoirs_of_a_revolutionist_se/chapters/vii) Peter's elder brother; saved from drowning by M.
