## Who they are

Master Flea narrates his own fall: once a free sovereign skipping kisses onto the bosom of the beautiful Gamaheh, he was captured by Leeuwenhoek, chained, and forced to watch his subjects drilled into tailors, professors, and soldiers for profit. Escaping into Peregrine's collar, he lends the young man his microscopic glass and, with it, a weapon against hypocrisy. His mixture of wounded dignity, romantic nostalgia, and mischievous commentary gives the novel its satirical bite and its strangest moral voice.
