## Snapshot

Mary's charming, unreliable uncle, the family's cautionary tale about what happens to Olivier men who can't hold anything together.

## Who they are

Uncle Victor is the Olivier who was loved and couldn't be depended on, a figure the family pities and quietly uses as a warning. His failures shadow the household's anxieties about money, respectability, and the men who disappoint the women who love them. For Mary, watching how the family absorbs his charm and his damage, he becomes an early lesson in the difference between being adored and being reliable — a distinction she will apply to every man she meets.
