# Maiwa — Maiwa’s Revenge character guide

> Maiwa in Maiwa’s Revenge by H. Rider Haggard.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** VIII Maiwa

**First appearance:** 0001-maiwa-s-revenge

## Snapshot

A wronged wife who flees Wambe's kraal and returns at the head of an impi, turning her intimate knowledge of his stronghold into a weapon.

## Who they are

Maiwa knows every inch of Wambe's kraal from years lived inside it, and she uses that knowledge to guide Nala's warriors straight to the chief's hidden cave. Her flight, her plea for protection, and her fierce presence in the battle line make her the engine of the story's revenge, not merely its object. She is the reason the hunters' private errand of ivory becomes entangled with a war.
