# Captain Good — Maiwa’s Revenge character guide

> Captain Good in Maiwa’s Revenge by H. Rider Haggard.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Good

**First appearance:** 0001-maiwa-s-revenge

## Snapshot

A British naval officer and trusted companion of Quatermain, bringing steady nerve and dry humour to the hunting party.

## Who they are

Good belongs to the tight circle of friends — Quatermain, Sir Henry Curtis, and the narrator — whose shared history gives the expedition its backbone. He is the kind of man who shows up for dinner and for a fight with the same unruffled competence, and his presence reminds the reader that this African adventure is also a story about loyalty among old comrades. His steadiness offsets Quatermain's mercenary streak.
