## Who they are

Ranulph Chanticleer is the only son of the mayor, treated more as an heirloom than a child by a father distracted by office and habit. Quiet and withdrawn at his father's parties, he is drawn to things the respectable citizens of Lud-in-the-Mist pretend do not exist. When he falls ill and then vanishes, his fate forces Nathaniel to confront the fairy fruit and old bargains he has spent his life avoiding.
