## Who they are

Prunella has her father's sensitivity and none of his caution, and she has already scandalized Lud by sampling fairy fruit and by doing wicked impressions of Miss Primrose's most treasured pronouncements. She moves through the Chanticleer household with a gaiety that unsettles her mother and escapes her father's notice entirely. When she vanishes with the other Crabapple Blossoms, her disappearance transforms the town's vague unease into a private terror that no amount of municipal dignity can contain.
