**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Captain Mumchance

## Snapshot

A sea captain turned town busybody, moving house to house with comfort and advice while quietly steering every rumor toward one man's ruin.

## Who they are

Wherever trouble spreads through Lud, Captain Mumchance arrives first with exhortations, condolences, and a helpful suggestion about who is really to blame — and somehow that someone is always Master Nathaniel Chanticleer. He is welcomed into homes that were once closed to him, and he uses that access with the patience of a man who has spent years reading tides and weather. His tireless, plausible presence turns private fear into public suspicion, making him the quiet engine of the town's turning against its own mayor.
