Endymion Leer arrived in Lud-in-the-Mist thirty years ago from nowhere, and his skill and learning have made him indispensable even to those who distrust him. He treats rich and poor alike, writes the official history of the Guild Hall, and mocks the Senators with dry jokes, nursing a particular antipathy for Master Nathaniel. His knowledge of fairy lore and his ambiguous loyalties make him both a useful ally and a dangerous unknown as the town's troubles deepen.
